Default GW:EN books graphics

I'm gonna address a very minor issue now: The Hero's Handbook and the Master Dungeon Guide, specifically the book graphics.

Now that is a notebook I'd like to own in real life. The pages have nice, rounded corners, a dark-grey stripe at the bottom and perforation to make it easy to turn them. All in all a decent modern design.

Yes, modern, when I saw it my 1st association was this:

and I was expecting something more like this:

I know I'm pointing out details here but maybe Anet should change the book graphics to make them look like something a dungeoncrawling, dragon slaying, ale drinking adventurer would carry around, not like something found in a besuited CEO's suitcase.

Just my 2 generic fantasy currency units.

Agreed. That fantasy style one would be a lot better, it isn't complicated to do. But since ANet never does these things, at least not for a very long time, you could just mod it yourself with TexMod.

The interface itself used to be more Diablo 2, old school fantasy style. DUnno why GW moved away from it.

Yeah, a.net even changed the skill activation bar to make it more "modern" looking. I remember people complaining about the "rainbow of colors" as people activate skills when that was new (color coding to show when a skill was interupted or completed).

Oh well. I doubt a.net would change this as it is personal preference. Some people might prefer the current system to your proposed one.

Note, this is different from the armor arguement becuase a.net seriously screwed that up. This, on the other hand, asceticly, is fairly nuetral looking as is.

Hey do you think these old ancient books looked tattered and discolored when they were made?

No, they looked like regular books with regular paper(maybe not the bleached crap we have today).

consider the effect of time on these ancient texts that you cite. The Dungeon and Hero's handbooks are given to you empty. So they're likely brand spankin' new.

they moved away from it to appeal to everyone, not everyone wants to see some dirty dragon bloodstained piece of leather with torn pages and crappy cursive hand writing.

XDDDDD.

No, no. Technology in GW is more advanced than you think.
One NPC is working in a television-like magic device, for example.

That "fantasy style" book is from Myst IV! Best game series in the history of history.

On a side note, it's not THAT important, though I would like to see a more realistic design.

I think that the current book is fine i mean its not as appealing to read or too look at When it is coverd in Skale blood and throw up (too many ales) they keep it clean for appearnce. Not too make it part of the story line.

why do people assumes that fantasy game should have the aged look? that's one question, to me, the asurain protal, the G.O.L.E.M the rock floating in the air the ability to summor elements are all not aged theme.

Althought I think the "aged looking" notebook looks better, I still prefer the one that is in the game now. its probably look new when the heros had it, maybe in GW 2 when your descendent gets these note book it will look aged.

anyway, that's my 9 and a half cents :P

I see your point, but a typical fantasy styled book with aged paper and quill writing inside just wouldn't really gel with the rest of the User Interface.

One of the things I love about this game is the streamlined, easy to use UI. No over ornate faffery or metal scrolls / parchments etc; just a clean, readable, user friendly set up.
